One Easy Way to Save Money

I have been using this tip for years to save money.

This is easy and it wont even seem like you are missing any of your money.

When I buy something and I get change back I then in turn put that change in a certain place at my house and never spend.

In a year I take all the change and roll it…take it to the bank and get bills for it.

The first time I did this was over 30 years ago.

I saved my change for a year and that is how I bought my first washer and dryer.

Save your change for a certain item you want to buy, or save it all up for Christmas.

You don’t miss your change….and in a year you will be surprised on how your change will amount up to be hundreds of dollars.

Right now I have a secret place in my house and I’m not sure how much change I have but, I now it is starting to billed up.

What I’m saving for now is new windows to go in our house.

Now I know it will take alot of change to save up for windows but, the change I do save will help out alot.

Here is an example…..You walk into McDonald and you buy a $1.00 drink. It will cost you $1.09. Give them 2 one dollar bills. Take the .91 in change you get back and put it in a jar in your closet or somewhere so no one can find it.

Never give the correct change. Always make it where you will get change back and go home put it in your special place and watch how easy it is to save money.

I always put the change back into my purse and when my purse gets heavy I know I need to empty it into my secret place.

That’s is a good feeling when my purse feels heavy.

Ask and Ye Shall Receive

Ask and ye shall receive……well you may not get everything you ask for but, there are times when you do ask you do receive.

What I am talking about is when you go to a Garage Sale and you are looking for a certain item and you don’t see it….what do you do.

I ASK if I dont see it.

My certain item is jewelry.

I always see costume jewelry but, I want the real stuff.

After I look around the Garage Sale I will go up to the person having the Sale and ask “do you have any jewelry” and I add on to that “real Jewelry”.

I tell them I’m looking for silver, gold, diamonds and gems stones.

Most of the time they say no, or they say I do have some but didn’t think anyone would buy it at a Garage Sale.

Then there are those who say yes but you wont pay what I want. When they say that i know it is going to be high but, I always ask them to tell me their prices.

You never know, their price might be high but not to high for you.

I have many times that when I ask they will say they do have some good Jewelry and they will go inside and get it.

I have bought gold and diamonds at some Garage Sales.

Once a lady told me that she did have some jewelry from an old boyfriend and she was getting married in a few weeks and didnt want the jewelry in the house.

I ended up buying a gold bracelet and a gold and diamond necklace for $45.00.

At another Garage Sale I bought a 3k gold diamond tennis bracelet for $250.00.

Yes that is alot of money for a Garage Sale but it cost $900.00 and I have been wanting a bracelet like that for a long time.

I went home and got my husband and he went back with me. I wanted  his ok….$250.00 is alot of money for our house hold and I dont spend that much money for jewelry without talking it over with my husband.

I went home with the bracelet and that was my birthday present which was a couple of weeks off.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME!!!!

I just love picking out my own presents.

So if you don’t see it ask for it. I have ask for different items also and alot of times they will go inside and find what you want.

So go out and ask and see if ye will receive.

1 Great Garage Sale Tip

Here is a Great tip for your Garage Sales…………Garage sale tip

Stay open as long as you can.

Seriously, Most people don’t do this and its costing them money.

One of my pet peeves is I go to a Garage Sale and I as drive up around 10:00am or even 11:00am they are closing up.

REALLY!!!!

I thought the reason to have a Garage Sale was to get rid of items you did not want and to make money.

In order to do that you have to stay out for most of the day.

Say you opened the Sale at 8:00am,stay open to at least 3:00pm or 4:00pm.

I know that you will have times when there is nobody at your Garage Sale and you think “I’m board and no one is coming”.

Well that is not true all the time.

Let me tell you what happen to me this week-end.

There where so many Garage Sales that I could not get to all the ones I wanted to by noon.I went to one sale at 12:30pm and the man that was  having the sale was starting to pack up as I drove up to his Sale.

I then parked the car and then I got out and started to talked to him.I started talking to him about how  one of my pet peeves was people closing up their Garage Sales to soon, ( and you know how people like it when you tell them what to do, ha)

But, to  my surprise  he was really listing to me.

As I was talking to him two more people stopped at his sale and bought something. I bought something for $8.00 from him and I don’t know how much the other people spent.

Well, as the day went on I went home to pick my husband up and we went out to do a few things.

After my husband and I completed our errands I decided to drive by that yard sale from earlier, it was two hours later and what do you know, the man  I was talking to about staying open longer was still open and there was someone at his Sale.

That made me feel good that maybe something I said allowed him to stay open longer and make  more money than he would of have made if  he closed up early like he originally planned.

So, you see there….MEN do Listen!! haha

Extra Money Doing What I Love

Making Extra Money Doing What I love….and I love Extra $$$ My husband and I have several projects we need to do around our house this summer.

Make Extra Money

The Garage Sale Diva

If  you are anything like us then you  don’t have all this of extra money sitting around to do  fix ups.

So, what I do to make extra money is  go  to Garage Sales and  find some quality items I know will sell and then  I add at around  $5.00  or more  to these items. I have done this to hundreds of items that I have bought.  Next ,I resale these items at my Garage Sale , take them to a pawn shop or sale them on craigslist.

Let me tell you the story of what  I sold a few weeks. I took some of my old rings, scrap gold and silver that I have been collecting from  other Garage Sales.

I didn’t have much scrap gold at this time, maybe $45.00 worth ( don’t get me wrong $45.00 is a good bit of money)  I also  had two rings, 1 was a white gold band with 1 tiny diamond in it that I purchased  at a Garage Sale for $15.00. The other ring was yellow gold with alot of diamonds, not sure how many diamonds exactly, I never counted them. I payed $75.00 this ring at a Garage Sale.

I ended up selling all these items at one of my Garage Sales and made a good amount of money for not  much effort that my husband and I to do some things around the house.

I sold the white gold ring for $100.00 and for the yellow gold ring I sold it for $155.00. I sold the rings and scrap gold for a total of $300.00.

The total amount of money I had invested in the rings  was $90   which in turn allowed me to  make really good amount of  $165 on just those two rings.

Don’t forget I also sold that scrap gold for $45 dollars ,I’m not sure how much I made on the scrap gold, but it was almost all profit because most of the time I pay under a $1.00 for scrap gold at Garage Sales.

Now you can see how easy it is to take someone else’s trash they are trying to get rid of and put some extra money for a vacation, home repairs or a night out.

Now you need to Get out there and go to Garage Sales and make you some extra money!!!

I Made $545 In One Day

A $500 Day isn’t Bad if I say so Myself…500 dollar garage sale day

I had no idea that I would make $545 and I’ll be the first to admit that I was super excited about that amount.

Let me tell you how I did it.

Well, I’m sure you can guess if you are a frequent reader of this blog, and of course I did it with one of my Garage Sales.

I had a Garage Sale on last Friday and made a good amount of sales that day.

Most of the items I sold where items that I previously bought at other Garage Sales. I like to buy items at other sales that allow me to  make a little profit.

Sometimes I  buy the items and sale them for the same price in my sales just so I can have have more items in  my sales. If I know it is a good item and I can resale it,  then I will buy it at  other people’s  Garage Sales in hopes of selling it at mine later.

I will tell you that the dollars  really add up alot faster than you would think.

I only did one  things to get people to come to my Garage sale.

What  I did was to post my sale on Craigslist in my local Garage Sale section. I had people at my sale before I even  put my sign up and I made over $200.00  before 8:00am.

That was a good morning!!

One of the Items  I sold was a Dooney bag that I purchased for  $2  for and I sold it for $20.

I also had some rings and pendents that I bought at other sales as well as  a silver ring with a nice stone in it. The lady that I bought it from said she payed $85 for it in Mexico.

I sold it for $45.00. I made a profit of $25. I sold a pandora bracelet for $275 and I only paid $8 for it at another Garage Sale.

See how the money starts to add up?

Some items you may  only make a few dollars profit but, then on the other hand you could  make as much as  $25 or possible make $267 like I made on the pandora bracelet. How’s that for a return on investment!

I’m going to  be back out this week end at all the Garage Sale I can possibly go to. I want to buy more items so I can resale them at my next Garage Sale or I will put them on craigslist and hopefully have another $500 day.

I challenge you to go out and find items to resale and make you $545.00!!!

Who Said Making Money is Hard?….Not Me

You Heard Me , I’m Making Easy Money….

But I’m not going to tell you I’m doing it with no work and sitting at home doing nothing.Easy Money With Garage sales

Here”s some of the things I’m doing to make this money.

Basically, I’m doing what I love to do and going to garages Garage Sales and  buying certain items I know that will sell for more than what I bought them for and then I  come  home posting the items on Craigslist.

How’s that for a money making plan. Most people never utilize Garage Sales or Craigslist at all. If they are using it then they usually do it the wrong way.

Let me tell you a couple of examples of what I’ve done so that you can get the picture and hopefully follow in my footsteps.

I bought a real nice expensive wall mirror at a Moving Sale last Saturday.I went to this moving sale where the owners where downsizing and getting rid of many really  nice items.

It was around 11:30am and most of the items were sold, but I knew that might be the case because I usually get to sales early before everything is gone

If I would have known about this sale then I would have made it one of the first stops of the day. I just happened to come across this sale  on the way to another sale.

I hope you don’t get tired of me saying that moving sales are my favorite…but they are and you can really get some nice items.

Anyway………..as I was walking up to the sale I saw a man loading up his truck with some really nice furniture and wrought iron items.

I like wrought iron so,  I asked him if he was going to resale the wrought iron. I asked him that because I know alot of people like me do buy  items at Garage Sales and resale  items later.

I was going to make an offer on these items, but  He let me know that his wife would have a fit if he sold them. And you know that a happy wife is a happy life! haha

Never  be shy at sales if you see something someone else bought before you got a chance to buy,  just ask them if they would like to make a little profit on it and sale it to you.

Just always be humble, kind, nice, ect, etc….when you approach someone. They dont know you and you don’t know them.If they say yes and give you a decent price then good for you but, if they say no just say thank you and go on your way.

I have this saying that it doesn’t hurt to ask. The worse they can say is NO!

As I was walking into the house of the moving sale I could see that almost everything was sold.I went through the house twice, I always do that because you can miss items and as always, I did miss this nice mirror the first time around. It was a really nice wooden modern mirror. It was big and in great condition.

The price on the mirror was $30, which was a good price because it cost well over $100.00 new.Knowing me I was not going to pay $30……I was thinking $20 and hoping I could get it for $15.

I asked the owner what was the lowest price she would take and she said $20.I really wanted $15 because I knew if I got it for that price I could resale it a make a little bit of money.

After a few minutes I just told her I was willing to pay $15.00.

I thought she would take it because almost all of her items were gone and she was talking about how she did not have a place for it in her new home. She took the offer.I thanked her for coming down to my price and off I went to more Garage Sales.

Today I posted the mirror on Craigslist for $50 and have gotten 2 people coming over to look at it tomorrow.

As the rule goes first one to show up gets the mirror  but they must have the $50. lol

I made some fast easy money and a profit of $35.

Not bad!!!

Tough as a Gold Fish

You Can’t Kill A Gold Fish

Have you every heard the saying “Tough as a Gold Fish”?tough fish

Well, I havent until today when I made it up.

I was at a Moving Sale today and as I was looking at all the kitchen items for sale the owner of the house came running into the kitchen with a gold fish in her hand  and put it into a bowl and took it to the sink and filled the bowl up with water.

She found the gold fish lying on the ground in the back yard.

She could not believe the fish was still alive. She made the comment that her husband emptied the fish bowl and must of thought the fish was dead.

The fish look pretty good to me. The lady didn’t know what she was going to do with the fish since they were moving. I told her I have a pond and she said if you will take it I will give it to you.

I was happy to rescue the fish. I was afraid it would not make it. The owner of the moving sale seems to think the fish was out of water for about 20mins.

I think it was longer than that because when I arrived at the sale her husband (who throw the fish out) was already gone and I had been at the sale for over 30 mins.

When I got home my husband was happy to see a new fish added to our pond but he was skeptical that it would not live concerning the trauma the fish had been in.

Out of the water for well over 20 mins. What a Tough Gold Fish!!!

The fish is still alive and doing well in our pond.We named him (or her) Lucky.

Lucky is lucky I came to the moving sale at the right time and Im lucky to have Lucky!!!

You never know what you are going to come home with when you go to moving sales/garage sales.

So on this St Patrick’s Day I came home with the gold….fish.

Garage Sale Season is Here

‘Tis the Season to Go to Garage Sales..

Well I went out today and went to 3 garage sales.Garage Sale Diva

I really like going to the sales. I can really get some good buys.

Today I remembered why I wanted to write my book and blog. It all came back as I was following the Garage Sale signs. There was only one sign for this one Garage Sale and if I didn’t know where the street was I would not of been able to go to the sale.

That is why I wrote my book I wanted to help people now how to set up their Garage Sales and give them my advice on what to do and what not to do. Also I wanted to tell all about what you can buy and all of the adventures I have had.

When I got to this Garage Sale that had bad directions to their sale, I told them politely that only having the one sign up might hurt their sale.

You really have to be careful how you approach people and tell them how to run their sale. I do not want to over step my ground but I do want to help them have a good sale.

The lady told me she didnt know much about having Garage Sales, that she was just helping her daughter sale her items since they were moving.

This would be my tip of the day about having a Garage Sale….don’t have one until you know all the ins and outs.Go around to other Garage Sales, look at what they are doing, how they have items set up.

Of cource you can look on the Internet, go to the library, ask one of your friends who has had a sale or goes to Garage Sales.

Dont just set stuff up in your yard and hope alot of people show up.You don’t have to spend alot of money having a sale.

Do spend a little for stickers to price your items and for bright colored poster boards to make your signs.Just make sure you post your signs where us crazy Garage Sale Shoppers can find your house.

I do thank those who many years ago made me mad and even today made me mad because they did not have enough signs up and those who had set their sales up poorly and made mistakes….if it weren’t for their mishaps I would not of written my book and started blogging.

Go have you a good Garage Sale and put up plenty of signs.

My First Garage Sale, Saving Money and Clothes

Who Doesn’t Like Saving Money and Buying Clothes?

Most of us love to buy clothes and most of us like to spend as little as possible.Save Money on clothes

I’ll tell you a story  I told in my book, Successful Yard Sales, about the time I wanted to buy my boys their Easter outfit’s.

Well, I was a single mom and did not have the money to buy them the outfits that I saw in a department store. They where matching sailor suites. The total cost was $42.00.

This was twenty five years ago and, I had never been to a  yard sale at this time but, my brother and his wife would go to them all the time.

So, I got this crazy  idea to have my own  yard sale. I went through my house to see what I could find to sale. You will be surprised at what you can find to sale. I wanted my boys to look good on Easter Sunday in those cute sailor suites.

I managed to find alot of items to sell. I set my sale up in the front yard. I lived on a very busy street so I did not have to put signs up everywhere just on my mailbox.I was amazed on how many people stopped and bought my items.

I only had the sale for a few hours because as soon as I got $42.00 I closed the sale up and off I went to buy the blue sailor suites.

I don’t recommend to only have your sale for a few hours but, I was afraid that the sailor suites would all be sold out.

Here are a few things I learned from My First Sale ….

1. If you want something bad enough you will find a way.

2. There are always items in your house that you don’t need and can sale.

3. It does not take long to get $42.00 at a yard sale.

4. My boys sure did look cute in those sailor suites. lol

Get out there and have a Yard Sale and go get your a sailor suite

Size and Garage Sales Don’t Mix

Just Because It’s Small Doesn’t Mean It Can’t Make You Money…Big Garage Sales Aren't Better

I’m bad sometimes about passing up a Garage Sale because it;ssmall and tooks like there is nothing good at the  Yard Sale. But over the last  20 years or so, I’ve learned not to pass up a Garage Sale just because it looks like there is nothing good or that it is too small.

Let me give you two examples that my husband and I have experienced thinking we are going to  pass up a Sale.

A few years ago my husband and I were out on a Saturday working and my husband spotted a Garage Sale.they just had a few items on the ground and one small card table with a few items  on it.

My husband wanted to stop and I said we don’t have alot of time and besides it does not look like a good Garage Sale.

Well he said to me “you always say never pass up a Garage Sale” I told him to stop and I will get out and will be back in a flash.

I walked up to the Sale and I was right  there was not much of anything. However, before I left  as I always do, I asked if they had any jewelery and the man said I have some earrings.I looked at them and they were nice silver hoops, they had the 925 mark on them which means it is real silver.

The earrings also had stones on them that to me looked like diamonds, I asked him how much are they and he said $1.00.

So, of course I bought them and they turned out to be real diamonds. I sold them for $50.00.

Just this past week-end my husband was coming home from work and said he past a Garage Sale on the way home not to far from where we live.

I wanted to go and he came along just for the ride. As we got closer the traffic was bad and my husband said lets just go eat, he said the Garage Sale wasn’t big and they didn’t seem to have a lot of items for sale.

He just kept saying that it was not a good sale but he was really trying to get me to not go so we could go to dinner.

Anyway, we did go and he was right it was a very small sale, not a lot of items.

There  were several boxes and I looked through them and found a Dooney wristlet. It still had the sticker on it and the paper to register it.

To make a long story short I bought it for $5 and it cost around $55.I also bought a Kitchen Aid chopper for $5. Not to sure how much the chopper cost at the store but, I do know it is alot more than $5.

I had a good day at that Garage Sales. Im glad we did not judge these two Garage Sales by their looks.

Don’t pass up any Garage Sales by their size or looks and maybe you will find a diamond in the rough.
